A family passion
It was by working closely alongside his grandfather that began Marcel Lecoufle lifelong passion for orchids.
He greatly contributed to the reputation of the family enterprise, which is now world famous for the quality and varieties of orchids they grow.
This World-renowned botanist is a corresponding member of the Paris Museum of Natural History and a true specialist of the orchid: thanks to his numerous trips to the wildest and remotest tropical areas on the planet, he has been able to study most varieties in their natural environments. Over the years Marcel Lecoufle has built a unique collection in the world. Among a vast range of stunning species, his favourite Malagasi orchids are now the specialty of the company which today is fully recognized as "National Collection" by the Conservatoire des Collections Végétales Spécialisées.
Photography being another passion, Marcel lecoufle is also the author of several beautifully illustrated books on orchids.
Today, the company is universally referred to as a leader in its field.
Passionate to the point of not being able to spend a single day without visiting his greenhouses, Marcel Lecoufle has transmitted his passion and in-depth knowledge to his daughter Genevieve Lecoufle and to her grand-daughter Isabelle Bert Incandela. They are now respectively the fourth and fifth generations of orchid growers in the family.
Surrounded by a team of enthusiasts, they perpetuate the family tradition and sustain this vast and stunning botanical heritage in their greenhouses located in the heart of the city of Boissy Saint Léger, outside Paris.
Anxious to share their passion and knowledge they were the first amongst the French cultivators of orchids to open their greenhouses to the public in 1987,as an exhibition place. Since then, it has quickly become a favourite place for those who love to collect or offer orchids.
As well as presenting and selling our orchids, a main purpose of the business remains to preserve the rare or endangered species. Each year we produce thousands of species and hybrids. Our greenhouses are home to nearly a hundred thousand plants with over 2000 different species.
